Phonics
We follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds phonics programme to teach Phonics. Children in Reception and Year 1 have daily phonics lessons. At the end of Year 1, children do a Phonics test as specified by the Government. Children in Year 2 sometimes need some additional phonics lessons if they find learning their letters and sounds difficult.

There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home. We also use ‘Little Wandle Assessment Tracker’ to assess phonics every 6 weeks. The children complete each assessment and this programme then allows teachers to analyse results so that they can reteach where needed or fill in gaps that the children have to ensure that everyone keeps up. We also incorporate deliberate practice into our daily school life and we have daily keep up and interventions in place.
