The Governors are strategic leaders and have a vital role to play in making sure every child gets the best possible education. Their purpose is to conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement.

Governing bodies have three core strategic functions:

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Governing Body operates the following committees:

Quality of Education
Responsible for:

  • Monitoring and reviewing information on school performance
  • Monitoring and reviewing the school improvement plan
  • Ensuring the school meets National Curriculum requirements

Finance, Staffing and Premises
Responsible for:

  • Producing and approving the budget
  • Receiving and reviewing financial projections
  • Reviewing leases and contracts
  • Monitoring finances
  • Monitoring risk assessment procedures
  • Inspecting the school site
  • Complying with legislation

Pupil Discipline
Responsible for:

  • Reviewing the use of exclusion
  • Receiving and considering representations from parents of pupils who have been excluded

Appeals
Responsible for:

  • Pay
  • Redundancy
  • Complaints
  • Staff dismissal
